pH and TRAIL receptors interplay in pancreatic adenocarcinoma

Fachbereich: Tumorforschung

I am working with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC), and how pH affects PDAC tumor cells‘ sensitivity to cell death through specific receptors called TRAIL receptors. Some of these receptors are able to induce cell death when stimulated with its ligand TRAIL. In multiple cancer types TRAIL receptors has been found to be upregulated, and could therefore be a promising therapeutic target. Unfortunately many cancer types have evolved resistance to TRAIL induced cell death, accomplished by multiple mutations in the cells. In the pancreas, pH plays a major role in order to maintain its normal function. It has to be able to adapt and regulate thoroughly fluctuations in pH. However during the evolvement of PDAC the pH profile is completely changed.
