Kiel has been internationally operating on a top level in the field of marine and geosciences for a long time. Scientists from all over the world are gathering to explore the world’s seas and their changes from the atmosphere to the seafloor. They come together in Kiel to determine the effects of climate change on the oceans as well as chances and risks for mankind.
The researchers are equipped with high-efficient technology: scientific research vessels, up-to-date marine instruments, geological, biological, chemical and medical analytics and high-performance computers for complex model calculation.
The close interconnection between marine and geosciences and law and economic sciences in Kiel is unique throughout the world and gives scientists the opportunity to transfer their findings in the area of marine sciences to other fields of study. This includes, for example, issues concerning overfishing and marine law.
In addition to this, study groups work on marine medical sciences and genetics. Hence, the university provides students with the best conditions for a successful start into a great carreer.
Kiel’s Christian-Albrechts-Universität cooperates with the Helmholtz Centre of Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR), the Cluster of Excellence 'The Future Ocean' and collaborative research centers on climate. PhD students and young scientists from various disciplines find themselves in the best working environment to progress with their studies on marine sciences.
