Life in Kiel
Transport & Mobility
Kiel is characterised by its great layout and perfect accessibility thanks to its extensive transport network on land and sea.
You can get about in Kiel by using its local public transport. There are, for example, the express bus routes that link Kiel’s institutions of higher education and the fjord steamers that are like buses on water.
Kiel attaches great importance to its extensive network of cycle paths. Traffic jams are almost unknown here. Furthermore, compared with other cities, Kiel has a good supply of parking spaces.
And another thing: one particular advantage Kiel has in terms of location is its proximity to Scandinavia. For those interested in exploring neighbouring Denmark, the Danish border is approximately 80 kilometres away by car. With daily ferry connections to Gothenburg and Oslo, Sweden and Norway are more or less on the doorstep and are ideal destinations for a mini cruise.
